Return to Golf 101 Team Building Bootcamp

Lawrie has developed a five-step golf swing model that makes learning basic golf skills easy.

The G.O.L.F Swing program is a unique, memorable and effective way of teaching golf as well as characteristics essential in the corporate team environment.

The G.O.L.F Swing building project is used as a metaphor for understanding the change process, effective communication skills, understanding simplicity over complexity, and fostering team focus and passion. The golf activities are fun, thought provoking, challenging and relevant to all companies interested in developing their team's personal and professional skills and abilities.

Whether your team can play golf or not, Mind on the Game activities promise to challenge even the most competent golfer, and turn beginners into winners.

An Overview of the 5 Step Program

Activity 1. Building the Five Step Golf Swing

•  The Design and Construction Phase - is focused on understanding the importance of following a simple process. Your team will learn the basic components that form our five-step golf swing model and then learn how to put the various pieces together using a supplied plan. The objective of this stage is to identify and isolate each part of the golf swing and make the parts fit together to create a complete golf swing model.

Activity 2. Ready, Aim Fire!

 •  The Delivery Phase - Once the components of the golf swing are complete your team is ready to apply the five-step model to the reality of hitting golf shots. This phase of the swing metaphor reflects the importance of making adjustments to a model to improve results. It requires patience, focus and persistence. This is the coaching phase where team members help one another to apply the model. This phase of the program is where team members communicate with each other using a feedback loop improving their coaching skills, communication skills and competency at striking golf shots.

Activity 3. Competition Can Be Fun

•  The Competition Phase - This phase of the program is where the work groups get to pit their skills against one another in a mini golf tournament. Scoring targets are set up at various distances from the golfers. This final activity shows team members that working together on focused activities will keep them sharp. This mini tournament is a fitting end to the day's activities and will leave a lasting impression in your team's minds.

The G.O.L.F Swing Metaphor Promotes:

  • Goal Orientation and Group Dynamics
  • Optimistic, Achievable Outcomes
  • Lasting Behavioural Change
  • Feedback, Fellowship and Fun

The Five Step Golf Swing metaphor is a powerful, effective and memorable message for your team to take away.
